Zovirax Treats Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is an extremely contagious sexually transmitted disease causing pain, itching and sores in the genital area. Sexual contact is the primary mode of transmission, although any type of skin-to-skin contact is capable of spreading the virus. There is no cure for the herpes infection, although it can be controlled and the symptoms lessened with proper drug therapy, such as Zovirax.
Some symptoms of genital herpes include small, red bumps, sores or blisters in the genital area. Pain or itching around the genital area, inner thighs or buttocks may also occur. The initial symptoms of genital herpes usually are pain or itching, beginning a few weeks after exposure to the virus. Small, red bumps soon appear, and then rupture, becoming ulcers that may ooze or bleed. Eventually, scabs form and ulcers heal. During the initial outbreak, flu-like symptoms may also be present, such as muscle aches, headaches, and fever, as well as swollen lymph nodes around the groin.
Zovirax Oral is a proven effective treatment to help control a genital herpes outbreak, available in pill or liquid form. Zovirax Cream has also been used as an effective treatment for the controlling of a genital herpes outbreak. Zovirax Cream is often helpful for the initial outbreak of genital herpes, but may be less so for those with frequent outbreaks.
Zovirax Cream should be applied up to five times daily every four hours with treatment continuing for 5 days. If, after 5 days sores have not healed, treatment can be continued for another 5 days. It is especially important to start treatment when lesions first appear.
