Zovirax vs. Valtrex
Unsure of the differences between Zovirax and Valtrex? Zovirax is generally available at much cheaper prices because it is available in the generic acyclovir form. Both medications are in the antiviral class of drugs and neither is a cure for the herpes virus. Both Zovirax and Valtrex help to control outbreaks of the infection and lessen pain and itching associated with a herpes outbreak.
Some of the side effects associated with Valtrex may be considered to be more severe in some cases. Common side effects include: nausea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, depression, joint pain, skin rash or stuffy nose and sore throat.
More severe side effects associated with Valtrex may include: bloody diarrhea, pale or yellow skin, weakness or fainting, urinating less than normal or not at all, confusion, weight gain and seizure.
Zovirax and generic acyclovir in comparison may produce side effects such as pain in the lower back, weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, or swelling in the hands and feet.
